While bypassing a ballast from the power circuit to installing a 3ft led tube light is easy to do. These directions will help you bypass electronic ballasts, which are most likely used with T8 fluorescent tubes.
- Turn off the power.
You need to find the breaker case and discover the breaker switch for the power in that area. Switch the breaker button off.
- Position your ballast.
In many fixtures, the ballast is concealed by a casing, and the LED tubes are on top of it, indicating you need to take out the lamps and unscrew the container to get to the ballast.
- Cut the neutral and hot wires.
It would be best to cut these wires close to the ballast; these are input wires because they transfer power to the fixture. Move the longer length of wire (coming from the fixture) for attachment to the main electricity lines coming from the building.
- Cut the socket lead wires.
The socket lead wires (red and blue-colored wires) are positioned on the other side of the ballast and combine with wires going out of the ballast to the sockets. These output wires provide power to the lamps.
- Remove the ballast.
After separating the wires that create the circuit through the ballast, you can untwist the ballast and physically remove it or curl up the leftover shorter ballast wires and tuck them away.
- Attach the input wires to the output wires.
Remove about one inch of the colored taping off of all the remaining wires. The input neutral and hot wires (black and white) coming from the house need to be connected to the output neutral and hot wires coming from the fixtures.
Each hot wire from the fixture requires a connection to the hot wire from the building. The same connection must be made between the neutral wire from the building and the neutral socket wires. And your ballast replacement is now complete.
22. How Do I Convert a Fluorescent Ballast to 3ft T8 LED Tubes?
We will explain three different ways you can use to convert your existing fluorescent tubes to LED tubes:
● Retrofit your fluorescent tube
You can efficiently retrofit a fluorescent tube using hybrid or plug-and-play LED tubes. They are identified as ‘universal ballast compatible’, and eliminate the need for any complex wiring. The installation method is as straightforward as following the instructions to start in and connect your new 3ft LED tube.

● Retrofit the ballast and tube
Direct-wire tubes can be utilized to retrofit the lamp and bypass the ballast. This can be performed by disconnecting wires to the ballast and wrapping it off with wire nuts. The switch is then rewired using the given wiring diagram before the installation of any LED tubes.

This process is more cost-efficient than other alternatives in the long run.
● Replace the whole fixture
Yes, you can always replace your complete fluorescent fixture with an LED one. The most straightforward way to do this is to use an LED panel or troffer or magnetic mount kits.
Replacing whole fixtures can be more costly than simply retrofitting old tubes. However, it requires rewiring as well as reasonable ceiling remodeling where the old switches once were.
Replacing fixtures is by all accounts a durable and future-proof option.
23. How do you Rewire a Fluorescent Light to 3 Feet LED Tube Light?
If you are ready to renew your fluorescent lighting to LEDs, 3 feet LED tube light is an excellent alternative to purchasing full LED fixtures. Because fluorescent and LED technologies are so different, there are a few steps you’ll have to take, but don’t worry: Rewiring a fluorescent light is simpler than you think.
Be sure to follow this guide to rewire a fluorescent tube for LED tube lights 3ft and bypass the current ballast:

- Disconnect the electricity supply to the fluorescent ballast.
- Remove the starter and ballast, if applicable, from the actual fixture.
- Remove the existing lamp sockets and holders.
- Install the non-shunted bulb holders in place of the existing shunted bulb holders. (Non-shuntedindicates that there is no connection between the junctions at the socket. Using shunted tombstones can grill the sockets and destroy the LED lamps, so it is essential to identify the differences and employ the correct components.
- Mark the LIVE END of the switch using either a sticker or a permanent marker. Lamp holders, on the other side, will not be electrified to anything.
- Wire the hot point to one of the edges on the side, labeled “LIVE END.”
- Wire the inert lead to the other direction on the LIVE END bulb holder.
- Make sure to fasten all connections with wire nuts.
- Once all the new, non-shunted lamp holders are wired on the LIVE END, reconnect the tube to the power source.
- Install the new 3 feet LED light, matching the end of the lamp labeled “L” to the LIVE END.
- Attach a cautionary Lamping Replacement tag to the luminaire surface where it is noticeable during future re-lamping.
- Switch the power back on. Your 3 feet LED tube light should light up!
